Western Mount Lofty Ranges

The Western Mount Lofty Ranges Prescribed Water Resources Area extends from Gawler in the north, to Middleton and across to Cape Jervis on the south coast, and includes four watercourses across the Adelaide Plains (the Gawler, Little Para, Torrens and Onkaparinga rivers). A water allocation plan (WAP) for the Western Mount Lofty Ranges Prescribed Water Resources Area was adopted on 17 September 2013.

The WAP aims to:

  • protect the resource for all water users, now and into the future
  • provide greater certainty for water users.

Development of the WAP

The WAP was developed by the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board in collaboration with the community and supported by community-based WAP advisory committees in the Fleurieu, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale areas. These committees played a key role by developing policies for water sharing and management taking into consideration social, economic and environmental needs. The committee members represented different areas, industries, skills, interests and experience.
