National Rangelands NRM Alliance

The National Rangelands NRM Alliance is a collaboration of 13 regional natural resources management bodies representing 81% of Australia’s landmass. Natural Resources SA Arid Lands is an active collaborator in the Alliance, which was established in 2008 to provide a forum for rangeland natural resource management bodies to meet, discuss, and collaborate.

The rangelands environment is very different to the more developed agricultural areas of Australia, with the majority of the landscape managed by grazing of native pastures. The rangelands are generally managed by ecological methods. Building resilience in rangeland ecosystems is critical to managing variability in the landscape and climate.

The inherent links between productivity, biodiversity, social and financial issues also mean that rangeland management needs to be seen and approached in a different manner to other landscape systems.
