Pest plants and animals
Pest plants and animals can pose significant threats to agriculture, the natural environment and public health and safety on Kangaroo Island (KI). Natural Resources KI works closely with land managers to find ways of reducing the number of pests, help restore native biodiversity and reduce losses in the agricultural industry.
Natural Resources KI have implemented the Too good to spoil program and a quarantine program and assist land managers identify and manage the pest plants and pest animals they may encounter on their properties. As a result of the Feral Animal Management Program, feral goats and deer have almost been eradicated from KI. The Coast and Marine Program focuses on marine biosecurity and works with the community and agencies to detect and eradicate marine pest infestations.
