Fire management in the Northern and Yorke region aims to protect life, property and the environment. Activities include:
- landscape scale fire management planning
- on-ground works to manage bushfire risk, such as: prescribed burning in strategic locations to protect life, property and environmental assets; maintenance of fire access tracks and fire infrastructure (such as water supplies and signage); other fuel reduction works like slashing and weed management; and maintaining fire related vehicles, equipment and machinery
- maintaining a highly trained and experienced brigade of the Country Fire Service (CFS)
- ensuring capability to respond to wildfires occurring on or threatening Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources managed lands, or at the request of CFS on any tenure.

Prescribed burning is undertaken in strategic locations identified in fire management plans, and includes burns for built asset, landscape and environmental protection.
