Mallee Prescribed Wells Area Water Allocation Plan
The Water Allocation Plan (WAP) for the Mallee Prescribed Wells Area was adopted in 2012, and replaced the previous WAP for this area.
The Mallee WAP covers the area shown in the map of the Mallee PWA Management Areas and Border Zones within the Designated Area.
The WAP aims to:
- protect the resource for all water users, now and into the future
- provide greater certainty and more flexibility for water users
- provide new management arrangements for the use of water in the area, including licencing based on volume rather than irrigated area
- offer more flexible transfer arrangements and new management areas with individual volumetric limits.
The WAP was developed by the South Australian Murray-Darling Basin Natural Resources Management Board in collaboration with the community based Mallee Water Resources Committee and key stakeholders.
The next step for the WAP is for the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources to progressively convert existing area based licences to volumetric licences in accordance with the WAP. Meanwhile area based licences will remain current.
