Discovery the Dinosaur Ant Art Project
In third term this year school students, and keen community members, from across lower Eyre Peninsula have the opportunity to be involved in free art and science Dinosaur Ant workshops all thanks to the generous work of the Port Lincoln Arts Council Inc and funding from Inspiring SA.
The discovery of the Dinosaur Ant in an amazing story, well know by many locals that have a connection to the Poochera region, and a complete surprise to many other locals!
Read about the Dinosaur ant (Nothomyrmecia macrops) discovery here: Australia wide story, Poochera story, National Geographic story.
Students participating in the dinosaur ant workshops led by community Artist Karen Carr will hear about the scientific rediscovery of the species and have an opportunity to get creative making individual small ant sculptures out of old mobile phone pieces and broken phone chargers etc. This mindful recycling of e-waste into art supplies is set to get many people talking and we are lucky enough to have the friendly people at MobileMuster on board to help with the final recycling.
Thank you for all your old chargers and unloved broken mobile phones. We now have enough.
Thank you to everyone that has been involved in the construct of the dinosaur ant sculptures, Karen through Squashed Cocky Enterprises will have them on show, on the mallee tree near the Coffin Bay Yacht Club, at Coffin Bay from the evening of the 15 until the 17 September.
