NRM Business Plan 2019-2022
Kangaroo Island Natural Resources Management Board Business Plan 2019-2022
The community was invited to have their say on the Kangaroo Island NRM Business Plan 2019-2022 earlier this year and following a consultation period the plan has now been approved.
The KI NRM Business Plan 2019-2022 outlines the board’s expected income and proposed expenditure for the period and also outlines future NRM activities on the island.
The Kangaroo Island Natural Resources Management (NRM) Business Plan 2019–2022 sets out how the Board aims to deliver on the goals and objectives of the strategic Kangaroo Island Natural Resources Management Plan 2017–2027 through its investment over the three-year period. This Business Plan identifies the expected sources of investment for the financial years 2019/20–2021/22.
The Kangaroo Island Natural Resources Management Plan 2017–2027 provides a regional framework and guidance for everyone managing and deriving benefit from Kangaroo Island’s natural resources, as contemplated by the Act. It presents a clear and defensible statement of what is needed to achieve the sustainable ecological management of Kangaroo Island’s natural resources, why this action is needed, and how the most effective and efficient actions are determined and delivered.
The plan is based on the best science and approaches currently available and effective, ongoing monitoring, evaluation and improvement are key elements in its implementation.
The Business Plan 2019–2022 does not reflect all funding the region receives as it does not include the state allocation to parks and public lands as well as state based project activities in the region. However, an integrated approach is in place whereby the Natural Resources Kangaroo Island Regional Director, who is also Executive Officer to the Board, is responsible for managing staff and resources within the region involved in both Department for Environment and Water (DEW) and Board related programs.
Following a the closure of the consultation period with the public on Kangaroo Island, all feedback was taken on board and written up in a report:
A Consultation Report is available here
The report summarises the efforts made to consult on the draft Business Plan and provide a summary of feedback received. Community consultation is an important aspect of the process and we thank all those who provided their feedback.
The Business Plan and the Consultation Report was forwarded to the Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation for consideration and adoption and was approved in March 2019. The final plan can be downloaded here.
