What is this issue

Predation of native fauna (by foxes, cats etc).

Impacts of the issue

Predation of native animals by pest species result in population declines, particularly of small-weight range species. In urban areas, feral and domesticated cats and foxes have a significant impact on birds and small mammals.  

 

Causes

  • Insufficient control of pest animals
  • Difficulty of control near built-up areas
  • Lack of landholder knowledge/ management capacity
  • Increase in lifestyle properties, high landholder turnover
