A Practical Guide to Rural Land Management

This six week course is designed to help you make better management decisions for your property and encourages land managers to adopt an integrated and sustainable approach to managing natural resources while supporting the goals they have for their property. The course will provide land managers with an opportunity to have a closer look at how their property works and assist them in making confident management decisions. The course will support land managers to view their property as an agricultural and ecological system.
Wednesday evenings from 15 May - 19 June, 7.00pm to 9.00pm plus a farm walk Saturday 22 June.
A Practical Guide to Rural Land Management course will offer advice to land managers on how best to manage land, protect the environment, and will cover a range of topics including:
- water resources and management of water courses
- identifying and controlling weeds and vertebrate pests
- develop an understanding of your soils
- improve your understanding of pastures and stocking rates
- managing native vegetation
- property management planning.
Experienced professionals will be joining the course to help land managers better understand how to manage these systems.
The course will conclude with a farm walk to give participants an opportunity to observe and discuss issues in a practical setting.
Also included:A two hour property visit and written report from experienced land management consultant Andy Cole and a farm walk at a participant’s property identifying management issues relating to course topics.
