Cultural water

During the formation of the Lower Limestone Coast Water Allocation Plan, the SE NRM Board was committed to engaging with the Aboriginal community in water planning.

The spiritual and cultural significance attached to water bodies by the Aboriginal community was the focus of the first ever Cultural Water Workshop recently held in the South East.

Delegates from the Aboriginal community, government, NGO’s, South East Natural Resources Management Board (SE NRM Board) members and landholders and others came together to discuss the issue of cultural water at the workshop.

The Aboriginal community has a lot of historical knowledge about the region’s water and water plays an important role in their culture which must be taken into consideration when managing our water resources.
